When thinking of rare crystals or gems, diamonds are likely the first thing that comes to mind. However, they are not actually rare, just the speciality colored ones are, like pink or yellow. However some crystals and minerals, especially tektites are rare today. Tektites are made when meteoroids crash into earth and rock and earthly materials are ejected into the air. These then cool quickly as they drop back down to earth. ( Source: Sternberg Museum of Natural History ) Because this process occurs only when a meteroids strikes the earth, tektites are considered rare by most standards. Another example would be the crystal Larimar as it is only found in the Dominican Republic, so it is limited in scope. This accounts for its rare nature, the more limited it is in amount and locale, the more rare it is. Below are some examples of rare crystals and tektites.
